Valerie Birkhoff

I’m crazy for clay, I discovered it after decades of painting and creating beaded sculptures. With muddy hands, paint, glaze, and beads I want to reach out to you. To remind you how alike we are and the emotions it takes to be a human. I use the cheeks of the face, the tilt of the head, the position of the body, or color to relay my message. We receive hundreds of these non-verbal messages a day. I invite you to stop and ponder this information. Recently, I have combined my art mediums to create wall pieces that incorporate my paintings, clay sculpture and beadwork.
Art kept me in school during a traumatic childhood and still to this day helps me interpret my world. I’m inspired to bring elements of my surroundings and moods into the piece that I’m working on; that these add to the work. I encourage everyone to nurture their inner-artist and express their unique view of our world, it makes for good art.
