James Phillips

“Tres Artistas” was donated to the Art League of Lincoln in 2024. This beautiful sculpture was created and installed by Artist James Phillips. It consists of steel frames and decorative terra cotta ceramic pieces, paying homage to Lincoln’s rich clay heritage and the Feats of Clay tradition. We are grateful for assistance and support from the Arts Council of Placer County and the City of Lincoln Department of Public Works.

The sculpture is made up of three similar pieces representing the similarities between artists and the artistic process. The ceramic elements represent the differences between individual artists, their ways of seeing the world, and the various forms that difference creates.
