Irene Matson, Adjunct Professor at William Jessup University, will present another compelling lecture from her series on important women artists:

“The acceptance of female artists in the mid 16th century begins with one woman’s accomplishments. Sofonisba Anguissola unexpectedly broke through the male dominated field of art to paint in the court of King Philip II of Spain which unfurled a pathway to success for other female artists. How did she do it? Using messages from her own paintings as well as historical documentation, in this lecture we will discuss the difficult choices that led to her great achievements.”
