Bob McClurg -- Bear's Lair; Grizzly Gallery

ARTIST’S STATEMENT: Once I bought my first lathe, it became clear that there was something inside me letting the wood speak, saying what it needs to become. While turning wood, the conversation continues, resulting in a magic blend of creativity and technique. I often experiment with different woods and materials to reveal refreshing images during my process, knowing that something new will emerge, with its own personality.

BIO: Bob has been a woodworker since childhood, making things with his father in their garage. But wood turning was always something in his mind as a hidden passion. As one of less than 100 ornamental turners in the country using a Rose Engine lathe, the complexity of his art showcases his creativity, and he clearly meets the unique challenges of both design and wood.

Bob’s work is in galleries around the continent, including Grizzly Gallery which he and his wife own, on their ranch in Penryn. Shops that carry Bob’s works are looking for something different, and he gladly meets that need. Bob’s mastery of his trade has allowed him to mentor many students and enjoy their delight as they master each new level.
